MAC Face and Body Foundation: My Thoughts

So this is such a staple from MAC, but there is so much controversy around it! Although a lot of people have tunnel vision around MAC makeup and ignore a lot of other brands, there is also a huge number of people who don't like their foundations, grouping them all into one.

Now admittedly, I haven't tried every single one. But during my time at CLMA, this foundation was in the kit I got, so I've had a chance to try it out on a good spread of people and different skin types, so here is what I've discovered:

Firstly, this foundation is perfect for someone like myself who either doesn't usually wear a lot of makeup, or likes to keep it very minimalistic when they do. I like foundations which are very sheer and don't feel cakey on my skin, and this ticks both those boxes. So if you fall into the sort of categories I just described then you may want to get yourself a sample of this one.

One thing to consider, if your bothered about this kind of thing, is that when you first apply this, it smells a little bit like suncream but after it sets in and dries a little the smell goes away.

This foundation is of a watery consistency meaning that it is quite runny, so if you put it on the back of your hand to apply, do be aware that it could run down your hand if you then move it around. it also means that it is very easy to wipe around the face in stead of covering it, so I like to apply it with a flat brush, concentrating on the areas that need more coverage and letting it sit looking pretty much like it does in the picture below. Leave it for a minute or two and then take a bigger, fluffier brush and blend it in gently, this should allow more of the colour to sit over the areas you want it to and not wipe around your face.

Because this foundation is so watery, it looks quite wet when you apply it but trust me it does dry! So don't go in all guns blazing with shed loads of powder, let it sit. The more you work the foundation the thicker it goes, and leaving it also helps too! if you do your first layer and then move onto something else and give it time to dry it looks a lot nicer, trust me. this is a picture of the foundation after it has been untouched and had time to sit into my skin.

Another thing I've learnt, mostly through trial and error, is that although this foundation is buildable, that doesn't mean you can just keep applying more for a heavier coverage because that will make it wipe around your face too. You need to apply a layer like I described above and once you've gone in with your fluffy brush you need to wait until it dries and sets. Then look at your face and if any places need a little more coverage then apply it in the same way but only on the bits that need it, there is no point wasting your foundation on parts of your skin that don't need it.

First Day at CLMA

Or formerly Cassie Lomas Makeup Academy. If you haven't heard of Cassie Lomas then you need to look her up, that women is an amazing makeup artist!

Yesterday was my first day on one of her courses, 'Bridal and Occasion makeup', and so far it's been so much fun! When I arrived here everyone was very welcoming and friendly and I felt comfortable here very quickly. In the mornings we have a demo by a working makeup artist and in the afternoon we have a go at the makeup.

So the first thing we tried basic bridal, and I think it went really well considering that I've never had to match a foundation to someone's skin tone before, or ever do eyeshadow on someone else's eyes other than my own.

The longer I am here the more I want to branch out as a makeup artist and try more kinds of makeup.

I'm staying in a hotel which is a little bit horrid but it's worth putting up with just for this course..

More updates to come soon :)

My Beauty Binge

So... I did a bad thing! Well to be fair it wasn't all that bad and I have used everything I bought a lot already! A couple of weeks ago I worked a few extra and got some tips and ended up with a good amount of money to spare. Like every make-up obsessed person I know of, it didn't take me long to decide where this money was going to go. Here's what I got:

Real Techniques - Starter Set (a long awaited item at the top of my wishlist)
Mitchum Advanced Control 48 hour deodorant - Shower Fresh
Sally Hansen Double Duty Strengthening Base and Top Coat
Collection Does It All 5 in 1 Mascara
Seventeen Miracle Matte Loose Powder - Transparent
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick
Rimmel Lasting Finish Colour Rush stick - Not An Illusion
Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint - Key Lime
Bourjois Bronzing Primer
Seventeen Flawless Poreless Primer
Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint - Mango

I love all the products I bought here, but the stand-outs for me are the Elizabeth Arden lip balm and the Bourjois Bronzing Primer. They are both extremely good quality and I use both pretty much everyday! (Although beware that less is more with this bronzer is it is slightly orange toned.) I also use the Rimmel lip stick pen almost everyday as it complements the season and is a really easy, natural colour to wear.

What make-up product could you not live without right now?

Moving to University..

Although this post is long over due, I decided I wanted to settle in to Uni life and be able to actually talk about it before I wrote a post..

This picture above is a few of the things that I brought to uni with me (I say a few because I didn't think anyone would be too bothered what pans and cups I was bringing so didn't include them).

First is a big paddle brush and clips. The necessity is obvious for this one! But I decided that a heavy duty brush like this one was the best bet for my long mane, and the clips with this one seemed like a good deal and therefore a sensible brush to pick... Plus I LOVE Babyliss products!
Moving along to the right we have a green picture frame with many windows, for any of you who have read my blog before or have seen my YouTube videos, you will know that lime green is my favourite colour, which is partly why I chose this one, but I also like the multi-window thing so i can put lots of different pictures in it that will make me smile!
Next along to the right we have cotton pads which are essential to any girl! I use these to take off my makeup and my nail varnish and then they just generally come in handy a lot of the time anyway.
Moving down from there, shower gel. This is another obvious essential, this one is Imperial Leather, Sensuous Silk. I chose this one by smelling all of the different types of shower gel and decided this one smelled the best!
Directly right of that is Blistex Relief Cream. I suffer with such dry lips that often in the winter they crack when I smile (which is super painful!) so I always sleep with a tube of this next to my bed and put it on religiously last thing before I go to sleep and first thing when I wake up. It's also useful to know where I keep it if I need it during the day because a tube that size I could lose very, very easily.
Next to that are just some bog standard cotton buds because these are really useful for everything (there main use being clearing up nail varnish smudges because I can never sit still long enough for my nails to dry).
Next along is a pack of 4 shower puffs from Asda. If I'm being honest, I may have picked up these specific ones because of the green one...a little bit. But I love these as they can exfoliate while you wash in the shower - 2 birds, one stone, great for lazy people like me!
The next thing is a little less obvious and I just happened to stumble across it while scouring Wilkinson. This nifty little contraption is a hanger with smaller hooks on it for your necklaces so you can then put them in the wardrobe! Brilliant idea for people in student rooms with not a lot of space, like yours truly. Good old Wilko's!
Penultimately we have a big can of Treseme hairspray. An essential, I think you'll agree. I found this in Tesco and it was an extra big can so thought the likelihood was it would last me longer.
And lastly, are 3 bottles of Hand Sanitizer. I'm a bit of a freak over germs and sharing a house with 27 other people makes me cringe if I think to much about it! all those hands on the door handles and banisters and I really hate the fact that I have to share a bathroom! Too many germs for my liking! So one big bottle for my room and 2 little bottles for various handbags.

All in all, I'm really loving Uni. I love my course and I feel like I'm thriving living away from home. I've been pretty independent for a while so I think living away from my parents suits me quite well.

If you've managed to read all the way down to here, I commend you very much, and thank you, I hope you enjoyed this post, as its slightly different to what I usually do. Speak to you all soon pals!xx

What's Been Happening..

Hey there friends!

If you follow this blog, even very occasionally, you may have noticed that I have not written anything on here in quite a while..

Well there are two main reasons for this; #1) I have become very lazy since leaving school for the final time and I am enjoying not having loads of stuff to do. It's a novelty to me to have time to watch TV so I'm taking full advantage of this new opportunity! So that basically means that both my youtube channel and my blog have suffered a bit - a problem I am now beginning to rectify! #2) I have done a crazy amount of travelling this summer, much more than I usually do, but I have to say I'm loving it! So far I've been to Paris, Greece and Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival. This is all within the space of a month as well so it's been a bit of a whirlwind.

Now I have kind of stopped to catch my breath and I am getting back on top of things like the blog, my YouTube channel, my Twitter and my general lifestyle outside of the Internet.

Here are some pictures from my travels, they are a bit limited because I could only use ones of me with no one else in them, sorry!

Lovers Bridge - Paris
Notre Dame - Paris

Eiffel Tower - Paris
Disney Studios Gate - Disneyland Paris

This ones more obvious but I love Tink

Disney castle at sunset- Disneyland Paris
So since I first wrote the beginning of this post a lot has gone down! On my second trip to Edinburgh in a week, one of the train staff spilt wine over my laptop, breaking it beyond repair! I then went through a very lengthy claim on the train's insurance to find that they were not prepared to give me enough money to replace the MacBook they broke. I've also started uni and moved into accommodation, which is a mad house but I really love it! Because of starting uni, the fact that I am dyslexic means I get a grant which gets me a laptop, lots of software, a Dictaphone and other things I will need, meaning i now have a Windows laptop. (In terms of being dyslexic, it doesn't really bother me, I just see it as one of those things, but I know that some people get very self-concious about having dyslexia, and paranoia plays a big part in this. If anyone wants a post on my experiences with dyslexia, leave me a comment and I will do that.)

When my laptop was broken I lost a lot of my pictures including some from Greece which is why there are none above.

Anyways, love you and leave you chums <3

Did you do anything fun or crazy this summer? Leave me a comment..

New Purchases!

Hello there chums!

I am currently writing this blog post from my holiday apartment in Paris. I don't own it or anything, just hiring :) But anyway, one thing I look forward to whenever I find myself in France is a good old trip to Sephora.

To some readers this may seem odd but I've actually only ever been in Sephora twice, including today, because they don't have it in England (I know, Shocker!) which means that whenever I do get to enter this blissful little haven I get very over excited!! I also end up spending a lot of money.. Whoops!

So this is the stuff I bought. From left to right, top to bottom:
Sephora Rounded Crease Brush '13'
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Eye Pencil 'Deep End'
Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream '20'
Sephora Lip Pencil 'Cute Caramel'
Sephora Shadow Brush '25'
Sephora Sparkling Metallic Eyeshadow 'Outrageous Metallic Black'
Sephora Long Lasting Eyeshadow 'Sunday Brunch'
Sephora Long Lasting Eyeshadow 'Disco Fever'

So here are the swatches, I love all these colours and didn't really have any others like these. If anyone wants reviews on any of these products then just leave me a comment saying which ones. As yet I haven't had a chance to try all of these products but I'll be sure to report back when I have!

Guess who's back..?

My exams are over!! YEYEYEYEYEY!! *happy dances*. Which means I now have a whole sumer filled with nothing but blog posts and YouTube videos!

So on to the point! I recently received a late birthday gift joint from my Granny and my Aunty which was lots of M.A.C goodies…

From left to right: 'Nightmoth' lip pencil, 'Brave' lipstick, eyeshadows: 'Humid', 'Jest', 'Vex' and 'Brule'.

Aside from Humid and Jest these were all things I'd asked for but forgotten about. Humid is such a lovely rich green, it's a frost so it has a beautiful shimmer picking up all different shades of green and gold in the light. Jest is also a frost. A salmony pink with a silver iridescent sparkle. Vex is another frost, but the most interesting one to me. As you can see in this picture it looks like a grey at first glimpse, but when you see it in deferent lights it also has levels of lilac and green. the colour is so complex yet so flattering to wear! Next on the list is Brave. the only way i can some this one up is it's a pink 'your lips but better' shade, and instantly became my new favourite for a daytime look!

Lastly is this lip pencil in Nightmoth. The colour I originally asked for was Current but as this particular MAC store didn't stock it they were assured this was the closest thing to it. its a very deep purple, perfect for a big statement lip at a party or event!

Do you have any of these products? What do you think of them?
